# Public Chat Links

> Share a no-login link so anyone can try a chat agent in their browser

Every chat agent has a public link — a standalone chat page anyone can open in their browser, without an Osvi account. It's the chat equivalent of a [public call link](/platform/agents#testing-an-agent): share it with a teammate, a stakeholder, or a customer to demo or use the agent directly, no integration required.

## Getting the link

On a chat agent's page, click **Copy public link** in the header (tooltip: *Copy public chat link*). It copies a URL shaped like:

```
https://app.osvi.ai/public-chat/<agent-uuid>
```

using the agent's own `agent_uuid` — the same identifier your API integration uses. If your browser blocks clipboard access, Osvi falls back to showing the link in a prompt you can copy manually.

<Note>
  Possession of the link is the credential — anyone who has it can chat with that agent. There's no separate toggle to turn the public link on or off; it works for any active agent.
</Note>

## What visitors see

The page is a self-contained chat window, no Osvi branding chrome beyond a **Powered by Osvi AI** footer link. It shows:

* The agent's name in the header (or **Chat with us** if the agent has none), and a **New chat** button to start over.
* The conversation, including any [interactive UI elements](/platform/chat-agents#interactive-ui-elements) — buttons, carousels, or a date picker — the agent replies with.
* A typing indicator while a reply is on its way.
* A **Connected to a human** badge if an operator has taken over the conversation. Operator **tell** replies and plain messages appear like any other reply; private **whisper** guidance is never shown.

Each visitor gets an anonymous identity, generated once and stored in their browser — returning to the same link later on the same device picks the conversation back up instead of starting a new one. The public link can't be used to pre-fill prompt variables or seed context the way the API can.

## If the agent isn't available

If the link doesn't resolve to a usable agent, visitors see a plain **This chat is unavailable** message instead of the chat window — for an unknown link, an archived or deactivated agent, or an account that's no longer active. The message is intentionally generic and doesn't distinguish which of these applies.

## Limits

To keep the link from being abused, Osvi rate-limits it per visitor IP: **10 new chats per hour**, and a generous allowance for keeping an existing chat's connection alive. Reading agent details and checking on an existing session aren't rate-limited, since the page itself polls them while open.

<Tip>
  The public link is a fast way to get feedback before wiring up an integration — send it to a colleague, watch how the agent handles real questions, then refine the prompt from what you see.
