# Dashboard settings

> Every website chat setting in the chat agent's Channels → Web widget

Website chat is set up per chat agent, under **Channels → Web widget**. The pane has four sections, top to bottom, and one **Save** button at the top right.

**Nothing is saved until you press Save.** While you have unsaved edits, the header shows "Unsaved changes". If you leave the tab without saving, the edits are discarded. A value that cannot be saved is reported next to its field, and nothing is saved until it is fixed.

**These settings are not versioned.** They apply to the live agent as soon as you save, and publishing or restoring an agent version does not change them.

## Anonymous usage

The switch lets visitors chat without signing in, through the website widget and the [share link](/platform/public-chat). It is **off by default** for every agent, and a duplicated agent starts with it off.

* **Off:** the widget shows no launcher, and the share link shows the chat as unavailable. A visitor who already has the panel open sees "This chat is no longer available" on their next message; their transcript stays. Logged-in chats ([server mode](/website-chat/server-mode)) keep working.
* **On:** the usage counter and the limits appear below the switch.

Turning it off hides the counter but keeps the counts.

### Usage today

Today's anonymous conversations against the daily limit, with the time until it resets (00:00 UTC). A conversation counts once, on its first message; logged-in users are never counted. The bar turns amber at 80% and red at the limit.

### Conversations per day

The daily cap of new anonymous conversations for this agent. Default 1,000; any whole number from 1 to 100,000. When it is reached, new conversations are refused until the reset, and conversations already started that day keep working. See [Limits](/website-chat/security#limits).

### Messages per conversation

Optional, off by default, and shows **Unlimited** while off. Switch it on and enter a number: each anonymous conversation can send at most this many messages (default 50; 1 to 10,000). After that, the visitor is asked to start a new chat, which counts as a new conversation. Use it to bound what one conversation can cost; set it well above a normal conversation.

## Allowed websites

The websites (origins) where the widget may load. Up to 20 entries, including the localhost entry.

* **Exact entries** such as `https://shop.example.com` match that scheme, host and port only. `https://www.acme.com` and `https://acme.com` are different; add both if you use both.
* **Wildcards** such as `https://*.acme.com` match subdomains at any depth, never the apex. A wildcard trusts every subdomain, including one taken over through a dangling DNS record; prefer exact entries for sensitive agents. Wildcards over public suffixes (`*.com`, `*.co.uk`, `*.github.io`, `*.vercel.app`) are rejected.
* **Unicode hostnames** are stored and matched as punycode.
* **An empty list** allows no website; only the share link works.
* **Allow localhost for testing** adds `http://localhost:*`, so the widget works on your computer whatever port your dev server uses. Untick it when you no longer need it.

The list stops other websites from embedding your agent in a browser. It does not stop scripts, which can forge the `Origin` header; see [Security and limits](/website-chat/security#who-can-start-a-chat).

## Welcome message

A first message shown as soon as the chat opens, before the visitor types. It is set here only; there is no widget option for it. It is off by default.

* **Message:** up to 1,000 characters. It is not written by the AI.
* **Options:** none, **Buttons** (up to 10) or **Cards** (up to 10, each with a title and optional description, button label and image). Card images must be public HTTPS URLs and need alt text; visitors load them through Osvi AI's image proxy, never from your host.

The welcome message appears before any session exists: no model call is made and nothing is stored. Clicking a button or card sends its label or title as a normal visitor message, which starts the conversation. Options become inert after the first message, and starting a new chat shows the welcome message again. It also applies to logged-in chats.

Switching it off and saving removes the welcome message from the chat. The text you wrote stays in the editor until you leave the page, so you can switch it back on.

The welcome message is different from the launcher [`greeting`](/website-chat/configuration#widget-options), the small bubble beside the closed launcher.

## Add it to your site

Copies what you need to put the agent in front of visitors. Both are disabled until **Anonymous usage** is saved on.

* **Website:** the widget script. Paste it before `</body>` on any page of an allowed website. To change colours and layout, add attributes from [Customise the widget](/website-chat/customise).
* **Share link:** a page hosted by Osvi AI, with no website needed. It works regardless of the allowed websites list. See [Public chat links](/platform/public-chat).
