Refining an Agent

Conductor can edit an agent you already have, not just build new ones. You describe the changes, Conductor makes them in your draft, and you publish them as a new version when you’re happy.

Opening an agent in Conductor

Click Refine with Conductor on any voice or chat agent’s page, or choose Refine an agent from the + menu on the build form. The build page opens on your draft of the agent — the same draft you edit on the agent page — and the Preview shows what you’ve changed. Ask for changes the same way as in a new build — see Working with Conductor. Changes that need approval arrive as review cards.

What you can’t change

In refine mode you can’t:

• Switch the agent between chat and voice.
• Switch between single prompt and multi prompt.
• Reference another agent.
• Empty the system prompt — ask Conductor to rewrite it instead.

Archived agents can’t be refined.

Publishing your changes

Conductor’s edits go straight into your draft, so you can also review and test them on the agent page. Nothing reaches customers until you publish and make a version live. When you’re happy, click Publish. The normal publish dialog opens with every change listed; name the version, optionally give a reason, and publish. Publish is unavailable while Conductor is still working on a turn or while the flow has problems to fix. Conductor may also suggest publishing: Conductor wants to publish: reason. Publish opens the same dialog with its reason filled in, for you to review and confirm; Not now dismisses it. Conductor never publishes or makes a version live on its own.

When someone else edits the agent

Your draft is yours alone, so teammates can edit the same agent at the same time. If one of them publishes a version while you’re refining, their changes are brought into your draft when you sync or publish — and if you both changed the same thing, yours is kept.
